About The Training

This training will deepen your about understanding the role of internalized sexual shame and therapeutic interventions to facilitate the release of said shame. The population of focus are Black women, femmes, and non-binary folks. Becoming sexually liberated facilitates living authentically across multiple areas of our lives, in turn fostering greater joy, connection, and liberation.

Being socialized in a sex negative culture results in us internalizing shame about our sexuality, sexual desires, and acceptable sexual behaviors. The training will discuss primary sources of sexual shame: family, peers, religion, healthcare, and media. Specifically, how these sources of shame are rooted in sociocultural contexts around race/ethnic identities, cultural norms, and sociopolitical oppressive norms will be highlighted.

Living in greater alignment with our sexuality requires intentionality, care, and focus. Therapy can be a brave space to facilitate unpacking and undoing internalized sexual shame. We will discuss ways to establish a sex positive and accepting therapeutic space to support this empowering process.
