About The Training

In this training, participants will be introduced to the terms food justice and food insecurity. Research shows a significant link between brain health and nutrition. However, food insecurity and food injustice are barriers to  emotional and whole-body wellness and nutritional lifestyles that may be beneficial in the Black community.

Participants will learn to identify food injustice, the systemic issues and negative implications food injustice plays in the  Black community, as well as, explore how to connect with communities to advocate for adequate nutrition and reduce mental health symptoms.

This training is designed for mental health and wellness professionals as it includes clinical content. It is also suitable for anyone interested in mental wellness and social justice.

  2. Identify 3 dietary lifestyles and how they are impacted by food justice
  3. Identify food injustice and food insecurity in Black the community
  4. Formulate intervention methods to encourage food justice

 

About the Presenters

 

Reynelda Jones, LCSW

Reynelda Jones, LCSWReynelda Jones is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist, Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional. She is also a public speaker and the author of the Worthy of Royalty Self-Care product line and the Co-author of Glowing Up In Private Practice e-Book. Currently, she provides individual counseling at her private practice, A Solution B, LLC located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Ms. Jones specializes in treating women struggling with chronic stress, anxiety, behaviors and symptoms related to traumatic experiences using traditional talk therapy infused with holistic approaches related to nutritional therapy and environmental wellness for physical and emotional health.

She also provides clinical supervision to recent graduates. She is also a member/Co-Owner of the Grand Rapids Food Cooperative. She has been featured on Therapy For Black Girls, Women At Risk International (WAR), ToastFried, Bustle Magazine, Natural Awakenings Magazine and more.

 

Melody Li, LMFT

Melody Li LMFT Mental Health Liberation Inclusive TherapistsMelody Li (they/佢) is a mental health justice activist and licensed psychotherapist. They are proudly queer, nonbinary, neurodivergent, and Asian.

They founded Inclusive Therapists, a social justice and liberation-oriented mental health directory, resource & education hub, and community centering people with marginalized identities. (BIPOC, 2SLGBTQ+, Neurodivergent, Disabled communities).

They also founded Mental Health Liberation, a non-profit organization bridging BIPOC individuals with free, culturally-responsive & identity-affirming therapy, and empowering students and emerging clinicians of the global majority.
Their activism focuses on collective liberation and healing.
