About The Training

On any given day, there are about 2.2 million individuals behind bars. Data released by the Prison Policy Initiative (2019) indicated that incarceration rates in the United States are at an all-time high with the U.S. leading the world’s incarceration rate.

Incarceration breaks family ties and has lasting effects on individuals’, families’ and communities’ emotional, economic, and psychological well-being. Despite the growing rate of incarceration, it is not often talked about in counseling.

During this conversation, we will discuss our dependence on the carceral state and punishment and how we can move towards practices embedded in love, redemption and accountability.

We will examine our notions and biases towards incarceration. And we will look at some ways to support clients, families and communities.
